Nancy Wilson, a jazz musician and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who had worked for a long time as housekeeper. Nancy was the eldest child of six. Nancy was inspired by her father's music taste and records played in the house. Nancy knew that she was going to be a singer by the time she was four years old and developed her skills by performing in the choir at church. After winning a talent competition in a television show around the age of 15, she began appearing regularly in Skyline Melodies, while still in highschool. At the age of fifteen, she began her professional career at nightclubs. When she graduated from high school, aged 17 Nancy was enrolled for a semester at the Ohio's Central State College now Central State University before dropping out and becoming an accomplished musician. The first album she recorded was in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band in 1956. They toured from 1956 to 1958. Nancy made her debut record in the band's studio with Dot Records while in the group. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she make the move into New York so as to improve her career. In 1959 Nancy made the move into The Big Town. Adderley's Agent heard her in The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. Within a month after her arrival in New York City. It was a contract with Capitol Records in the year 1960. The year was 1960 when she made her debut with. Guess Who I Saw Today. Capitol published five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. After Adderley's influences she shifted her focus her focus from R&B to jazz. Nancy Wilson's 1962 collaboration in 1962 with Cannonball Adderley propelled her to the top and, in 1963, she had her first success with Tell Me the Truth. It led her to perform at New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she quickly became a legend.
